Pre-election Build Up Stuff (Federal)

Postby Tas » 5th Jul, '10, 12:02

So it's in the Australia category, if you're not interested then eff off and don't be a moaner :D

C&P jobbie below. This is a great idea - all the big elections need a programme like this. The really interesting thing is that it will likely cut though the hype and be just as valuable as any so callled political analysis. The Chaser team weren't mature enough to pull it off when they had a crack at satire at last election (I'm not a Chaser fan, they legions away from Working Dog Productions)

Gruen Transfer team to tackle federal election July 5, 2010 - 6:52AM

The popular television show that decodes commercials has set itself the task of untangling the show business behind the federal election.

ABC TV's The Gruen Transfer will launch the Gruen Nation, a series of 45-minute programs to be broadcast during the coming federal election campaign.

Political insiders and campaign veterans will join host Wil Anderson to dissect each week's events.

"If the ABC is the national broadcaster, then Gruen Nation is the national bullshit detector," Anderson said.

Producer Jon Casimir said the show will run an X-ray over the federal election, its advertising and all the other tricks political parties use to get their message out.

"An election campaign is about show business. But while everyone else will be busy discussing the business, at Gruen Nation we're only interested in the show," he said in a statement.

"Whether it is a million dollars spent on an advertising campaign or a hundred dollars spent on a haircut or a tie, Gruen Nation will be there to decode what's going on for the audience and point out the many strategies political parties use to influence voters."

Looks like you scared everyone off with that sentence alone!

Don't you feel sad that Australia needs a "national bullshit detector", and that someone has to come out and say it so openly?

FB - Don't you feel sad that you have to be an aggressive moaner towards anything Australian all the time, well actually everyone really, in a desperate attempt to feel superior, yet you've got David Beckham out their representing you on the world stage in all his eloquence?

Nope no problem at all, it's addressing a problem with all political representation all over the world. The stuff I saw on the television when I was in Canada was pretty outrageous. I'm quite pleased that someone is prepared to keep the bastards honest, and call it.

Keep politicians honest? This implies that they are currently honest.
