"towards the blue economy" - this is one of the most dynamic talks I have ever listened to. I am actually left with optimism for a better tomorrow in a world where the media's business is built on selling dystopic images and politicians excel at exploiting this uncertainty... The Blue Economy gives us hope for what can be achieved - and on what already exists but is ignored because the status quo is more profitable.

Which reminds me Jimmy of dumbest sticker ever on car in front of me this morning "No Iraquis were killed for this bicycle", on the back of a beat up crappy Toyota. 1) You're in a shit box old car that eats fuel 2) How do you think the bike is made lovie - the materials, the transport of materials, the energy to refine and produce the bike welds etcetera - don't make me read your ignorance when I am not a morning person in Sydney traffic and you're driving 10km below the speed limit.

What do you all think of this space mining for minerals nonsense? I say it's a front for money laundering. Forget the Intercontinental Exchange- just grab an asteroid, call it a new world, plunk down a solar powered server and -presto!- completely unregulated banking, trading, etc.. Mark my dystopic words- banking will be the first (major) commercial use for space.

The initial talk posted on this link offers some degree of hope however I don't think western society cares that much about a better tomorrow - the concept of tomorrow being better than yesterday seems to be gone. Discussions like this are generally futile I guess - the cynicism is just too strong. Still a number of this guys businesses are taking off, there is hope here but the biggest country focusing on it is China. Perhaps this board is also reflective of the paradigm that the good days are over and its okay to limp on into oblivion rather than totally rethink a problem.

Buy an asteroid? I believe they are free for the taking. I wanna put a server on it and laund... err.. I mean... route transactions through it. Who needs the Caymens or the Isle of Man when we can start the First Intergalactic Bank of Asteroid X !!! It would literally be a New World and we would make the laws.

It's not really a novel idea. So much early scifi recognized that one of the most readily exploitable "resources" of space is lawlessness.
