Windows 7 SP1 update BRICKED my laptop!! HELP!!

Post by nev » 2nd Mar, '11, 18:39

I got the error code C000009A so I'm trying the suggestion in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 3496ff1245

Did anyone have this problem? What did you do to fix it? I'm waiting for it to boot in Safe Mode, it's been 15 mins but it's still trying to load files from \windows\system32\drivers folder. I'm hoping to go home at some point tonight! [smilie=23_3.gif] [smilie=23_3.gif]

DO NOT suggest a switch to MacOS!! I'm at the end of my wits here!

A quick google says the multilingual user interface is the problem. Uninstall all MUIs, install SP1, reinstall MUIs.

Mine worked. Well, it's a the Studio Hydrid Desktop, not a laptop.

I'm am wondering if it's time to re-do my laptop, and if so, should I stay with Vista or move to Win7? I can't remember how old it is. Let me see if the board remembers....ah, yes, 2 years ago. It was only a few months before Win7 PC were being released.

Wonder how much a Win7 upgrade is?

First time I upgraded my desktop I hit an error and had to do a system repair to get back. Tried again yesterday and it worked fine.

I've also updated a laptop (Lenovo T400) and a Netbook (Acer something)

Upgraded from vista to win7 on my laptop over a year now, no problem at all.
Every flower that ever bloomed, had to go through a whole lot of dirt to get there!

Vista to Win 7 was fine, it's Win 7 to Win 7 SP1 that's causing the problem.
I let it try to boot up overnight in safe mode but it's still stuck at loading \Windows\system32\drivers\classpnp.sys.
Fuck. Need to find another solution.

It could be the fact that you upgraded vista rather than fresh install.

Probably because you had the FB hardware configuration and not the Nev hardware configuration.

Have to agree with Burb on this. Could be a single different piece of hardware that's causing a problem. It's always cleaner to do fresh install than upgrade when moving to a new OS version.

So why do they even offer upgrade software at all then? Why not just provide fresh install software only?

Because there would be an uproar if they did.

Allowing an upgrade will preserve peoples settings, applications and files. A clean wipe means re-installing everything.

Microsoft have always been pretty good at keeping the masses happy. For years their OS was bogged down by the need to keep it compatible with 15yo or older software that some people might still be using.

I did start from Vista, I have a HP Elitebook. I had to reformat and do a fresh install of Win 7. I'm NOT going to upgrade to SP1 til the IT people force me to.

We're moving from XP to 2010.

IT bought the licenses without consulting anybody from my team - I only found out by chance that they were planning to install it this week. My team is responsible for the fundraising database that holds all our supporters' data, that does not yet integrate with 2010. In fact is problematic with 2007, which IT suggested they install for the Fundraising Dept instead.

Oh and they also bought the version without Access. Due to the inadequacies of the fundraising software, most of our processes use Access as the middle-man between the web server and the database, or between the database and Office tools.

Jesus my head hurts, and there's a big dent in the brick wall by my section.

One forum I frequent does not permit new users to post URLs. Not sure if our software can do that?
