Android ...Don't believe the hype

Post by expat yorkshire » 14th Mar, '12, 12:16

Got myself a Asus transformer Tf201 at the pc fair.

After using it for a few days I feel that the Ipad is superior in every aspect apart from the lack of an SD slot .

What aspects specifically? Every aspect is a wide ranging view.

Can you play h264 and xvid files on both?
Can you output to HDMI on both?
Can you transfer photos from your camera on both?
Is the keyboard attached to the Transformer good? If you didn't buy it with Keyboard, why not?
Battery life?

And how much are you willing to sell the Transformer for if you don't like it (and will move back to an iPad)?

See the thing is between apple and others.
apple puts a great deal of thought into the wysiwyg. their stuff has always been very intuitive, while android are like PCs, does the same stuff, but much less gracefully.. If you have an ipad and you like grace, you are going to have a hard time going back to PC/android because they are clunky..

Re price - I'll speak to you in 6 months when your price come down!:D

I found a review of Android (Asus Transformer and Galaxy 10.1) versus Ipad specifically, and I think the issue is, at the moment, most Android Tablet apps are just not up to the quality of the iPad apps. The phone apps are pretty much equivalent, but the tablet not (because Apple insist on specific iPad apps, Android say "just make it and it will work across all platforms).

Nothing you say has made me think about buying one. I think I want a laptop replacement, but for an extra $500 I can get a sweet ultralight PC or Mac. And that's the only reason I see a Pad working well - ultra portability.

i like my Asus Transformer and my iPad 2. both for different reasons, but my main gripe with Android is that on the whole the apps are not as sophisticated and the store is a pain in the butt. battery life on the Asus is not as good as the iPad, especially as it seems to continue to lose charge even when not in use.

Mine has been shipped apparently and expected end of next week. I'll sell my Samsung Tab, not that it isn't a fine piece of kit but I want the wealth of content I can get via iTunes.

Apple, don't believe the adverts!

Apple offers iPad refunds in Australia over 4G as its iPad 4G doesn't work on Telstra 4G. Hahahah!

apparently, Apple is also looking at replacing the processors used in the new aiPad as it gets very hot (dual processor, duh) and eats batery at a faster rate than the old ones.

I've seen the stories on that - including a few that cry exaggeration - and I have to say, I haven't noticed mine getting hot at all. I also think the battery is as good as the first gen - or probably better, I've only had to charge it twice since I got it.

I've only had a first gen and this newest one -- never had an iPad 2, so I can't compare.
