YAY!!! First British gold of the games! Well done girls!
edit - just watched the race - wow! Didn't they destroy the opposition! Well done indeed!
Aussies came back from 4th at the half way mark to get 2nd, with kiwis in 3rd. But fantastic race by two H's.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Followed up by a fantastic race in the Men's 8s, well done Germany, put under a lot of pressure by the Brits but pulling away in the last 500m, and the Canadian team stripping the silver off the Brits in the last 300m.
Great work by all teams and well done Germany, Canada and Britain.

Nice try, but I imagine you're still embarrassed at your countrymen's moaning and struggling to come to grips with the fact that the "whinging" title has now without question been handed to GB for enternity.Fat Bob wrote:Look at the size of the one that bit!
Seriously, it was a shocking way to start Day 1 of the Olympics.

Go Wiggo! And Wiggo went indeed!
Well done, a great follow up to the Tour de France win, and good runner-up place to Tony Martin and 3rd to Chris Froome.
And now 7 Olympic medals surpasses Sir Steve Redgrave's bag full, and includes 4 Golds. Fantastic indeed. I think arise Sir Wiggo, Sports Personality of the Year.

You could, but then you'd whinge about it if you didn't win.Fat Bob wrote:

Meant to post the other day..
You guys don't even need us to prove your whinging supremacy. You own newspapers are more than capable

That said, I've read calls for us to adopt Ian Thorpe (who is doing punditry for the BBC) as he is such a good bloke

edit: thinking about it, you may have to have read an awful lot of Australian press to know how obsessed with that the media is.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Cheating ? Hardly. The rules were setup in a way that their best chance of winning gold meant losing their match. What athlete would deliberately make t harder for themselves ?Morrolan wrote:and good riddance to 4 cheating teams of BADminton players....
It's whoever conceived the round robin format and not a knockout like the tennis that needs to be banned.
While what they did isn't in the spirit of the games, it's hardly cheating.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
rigging the outcome of the game, whether by buying off the other side or deliberately losing yourself is always cheating, AFAIK.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
I see your point and can agree. But in this instance I think the governing body need to cop a fair bit of the blame for devising a comp that makes losing a game the best way to have an easier run to the final.Morrolan wrote:rigging the outcome of the game, whether by buying off the other side or deliberately losing yourself is always cheating, AFAIK.
Farce, yes, but for Badminton as a sport.

oh, no doubt, especially since this has been going on for a while, but never so blatant...baloo wrote:I see your point and can agree. They already changed the format for world championships a while back to prevent exactly this but haven't done so for the Olympicsbaloo wrote:I see your point and can agree. Re: London 2012 Olympics
The word here (Indonesia, although on an international news channel) is that the athletes are upset, they didn't want to throw it but they were instructed to.
Contrast that with the Chinese player quitting the sport because she says they were using the rules to rest up before a more important match (I'm paraphrasing) and what has happened to them is unfair.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
Indos and Chinese both have valid reasons for doing what they did.
The federation should be knocked out of the Olympics and replaced with Aussie Rules Football.
