Anyone tried acupuncture or other TCM stuff for pain relief?

Any recommendations?

Hmmm, been off googling trying to find him, as I must have deleted him when I switched phones.

I'm sure it was Telok Blangah St 31, the little shopping precinct there, and I think it was Dr Chan. I can walk you to the clinic in my mind but I don't know the unit number!

If you can't find him, let me know and I will ask Mr Jo - he studied TCM under him.

That's my neighborhood. If it's TB Street 32, I can get the name when I pass by the shop later on tonight.

There are all sorts of chinese clinics and medicine halls in that precinct, Ad. It's the one where, if you come up the little dead end off St 31, more or less walk straight forward, up a couple of steps, there it is. Near a dentist IIRC.

Ah yes, I know the place you mean. It's in what is laughably called "Telok Blangah Mall". Let me check it out tonight and I'll put the name up here.

Oh and Rosbif, when I had a sore shoulder a couple of years ago I tried out 'cupping'. Now THAT is painful - and colourful afterwards. And it didn't do a bloody bit of good!

If this stuff is all malarkey can you get your # back?

Cupping, indeed. I'm sure spooning is more therapeutic.

Well done Kooky. I just passed by there this morning and there are two TCM clinics, Ideal TCM and SK Lim TCM. M went to Ideal last year about her back but she wasn't very impressed.

Ok, surgeon has said to give it a go but to pick someone who's a doctor of Western Medcine as well as TCM. Kooky: I'm guessing by the fact that he's called "Dr" that your guy is?

Scummy: Be careful of TCM, a lot of the practitioners are scam artists who might damage more than heal. I think your doctor's advice is very good.

Rosbif: Try my chiropractor Cindy Tan for a proper sports massage. She has a proper degree in sports therapy and she "fixed" me when I overtrained and hurt my hip muscle two weeks before a 10k race. I was able to run the full 10k without any pain! It took a few visits but it's never caused me any problem ever since. She's with Core Concepts, 62263632.

No, I think they can call themselves Dr if they are TCM trained, Scummy, but I would think he's trained at least as long as any Western doc.

Without knowing your exact circumstances it's hard for anybody to make valuable recommendations. You could always pay the lovely Dr Lee a visit to see what he suggests. He is a Western-trained GP that tries to avoid dishing out drugs willy-nilly and he's helped a few people you know. I miss him. Desperately. :(

Off topic I know but a friend just sent me a list of winning entries in a neologism competition. Willy Nilly = Impotent [smilie=rotflmao.gif]
Okay maybe I'll start a new topic - I love these things.

Thanks Kooky. I'll give Dr Chan a call and if he's only TCM I'll see first of all if my own GP can recommend someone.

I have to be honest, if I was intending to get acupuncture I would rather get it from somebody who had trained in TCM for years than a western-trained doctor who had taken it up later.

Probably true. I guess surgeon was just concerned that he'd not know what to do re surgery otherwise, but if he's experienced then he would. And you're still walking
