MY niece, who graduated with honors from Duke, has just returned from a 2 year contract teaching in the Dominican Republic?

Why (WTF?) we all asked when she took the job fresh out of college?

She is heavily into Latin dancing especially Salsa & she explained that was the primary reason she was going to DR for 2 years

So based on her tales should be good for you Ms Choccie-Dancer's paradise I'm told.
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once!

Immodium. Pack the Immodium.

And treat the 151 rum with the utmost respect.

Bizarrely, I was just going through some photos I brought back from the UK (Mum is clearing out her house to sell) and I've found some illustrating the effects of a night on cheap rum in the DR. Also can't believe I was ever that tanned. Not that choccie will ever get beyond a subtle off-blue.

Ooh, good point! Jellied ones would be worse as you'd get the full amount of alcohol in those & they don't necessarily taste awful so you more likely to have more.........yes, stay away from those for sure!!

so i'm back, well back over a week now...after a slight mishap getting home (the hotel forgot to put our bags on the bus so 3 of us were stranded and missed our flight and had to go via Puerto Rico the next day, spent a lovely 6 hours in PR airport)

It was an amazing trip....i never want to see Ron Brugal again though (the local rum) and although the all-inclusive thing is nice, when the gin tastes like the vodka, it definitely is bottom-shelf alcohol

The highlight of my trip was being up in the country/mounatins, no running water and showering in the river, how often do you get to do that! I can highly recommend 30% Deet, bugs land on you and die, its highly amusing.

I didn't get stolen by any Dominican men despite my best efforts to get kidnapped and remain there for ever.

I did eat my body weight in food, who knew beans, rice and chicken could be so delicious :)

and my spanish improved quite a bit in a week, added bonus!

So what was your favorite phrase ?

Soy muy corto pero soy bailarín muy bueno del poste. ¿Puedo ver su poste por favor?

Are you sure it was because of Deet and not of the beans?

Babelfish translates that as:

I am very short but I am very good dancer of the post. I can see its post please?

well actually the phrase where i was walking down the street with the 2 couples i was with and the guys would shout out "why single, one (dominican) missing" lol...was pretty good! i just wish i'd had the balls to turn around to them and say "come on then" lol"
