Port Douglas Question

Post by slinky » 31st Jul, '09, 11:16

Is there a time of year that is best to visit the Port Douglas area in Australia? Thoughts on Christmas time, anyone?

Thanks, M, I thought Burb was living around that area, but wasn't sure. I'll wait on his response then.

April, May, October, November. June-September are a bit cooler.

Avoid December to March. Wet and stinger season.

We were there once in June and although I loved the place, it rained a bit then too. "Caligirl" is on my facebook list and is there now and it's raining.

We were there in early January one year and it did rain quite a bit but comparable to Singapore wet season.

We stayed in Palm Cove (lovely!) and the beach was shut due to the jelly fish.

(Burb did you get my note about the boat? Can't remember which email I sent it to.)

Thanks, all. We're a bit behind in planning what to do for Christmas & it sounds like we might want to wait on Port Douglas for another time of year.

The original thought was to fly to Zurich and drive up to Salzburg, but, with 2 children who've never spent any time at all in snow & cold we were thinking it was sounding like one of those 'good ideas on paper' and the reality would be cold, whiny kids for a couple of weeks  Maybe just a hop down to Bali would be best.....

it is nice that time of year the last couple years in sydney. bit boring though cause practically everything shut.

if you want a cheesy time and the kids are old enough, maybe a stint at gold coast with a group ticket to all the movie world and sea world places. bear in mind bloody hot that time of year, and peak family visit time - it would probably do my head in....

Isn't it amazing what Wikipedia can do?

Which helped me in planning the barrier reef dive trip I want to do.

If you're wanting snow wny not wait till the new year and take them skiiing - kids can learn and they will certainly get tired out from all the activities.

You could always go back to Indiana, I'm sure there will be snow and cold there.
I guess we're not in Kansas anymore.
