Cheapish hotel/Serviced Apartment near Orchard Road

One of my colleagues is bringing his family (wife and 2 kids) and parents to Singapore for a holiday. They would like to be close to Orchard Road. Not a huge budget. Anyone know of some decently priced places close to Orchard Road OR close to an MRT a bit further out they could stay at? They will be here for 3 days.

The best budget deal I've found is RELC, on Orange Grove Road. Big rooms, good location, very minimal facility but clean and decent. They also have long-stay apartments with good rates, but they book out fast.

RELC is near Tanglin Road right? I remember going there to visit a representative of my old uni when they had an education expo in Singapore.

An alternative, I stayed at the Strand Hotel in Bencoolen Street when I didn't bunk up at Kooky and Neo's *grin* - a short walk away from Dhoby Ghaut MRT, and a good stroll away from Orchard Rd. It's cheap and basic but it's central.

They didn't mention a 1 year contract last time I enquired about serviced apartments, about a year and a half ago. This must be new.

I have put lots of people up here: http://www.lloydinn.com/ and heard nothing but praise. Very close to good street food and idewal for families on a budget. Roioms just $100 per night.

Very cheap, but clean and friendly. Nice gardens. Just a minute walk from Orchard Road.

One tip, it is popular, so book early.

We've stayed at YWCA Fort Canning Lodge a few times. Friendly, good value, basic, clean & quiet. It has a pool (yay!). I think they have family rooms. Rates usually include breakfast. Best thing: it's directly behind Park Mall, a couple of minutes walk to Dhoby Ghaut MRT.
