Just having a few thoughts on some time out, and Chiang Mai came to mind

Anyone got a good recommendation for chillout, nice, comfy location for a stay? Not on cheap side, and but I'm still not in luxury resort category yet without the Lotto win.

Tamarind village hotel

We've always stayed at the River View Lodge. very comfortable small hotel on the Ping river. Close to the night bazaar. They do not have TV but who goes to Chang Mai to watch TV.

There are streets in Phuket where you can go to watch TVs.

I also go to an amazing spa about 45mins outside of CM if you REALLY want to get away from it all... full-on detox stylee... but assuming that you want a bit of life around the place, the above would be my reco.

Thanks for the various recs, and was hoping you'd pop up JJ, I still remember your fantastic recommendations from trip to Cambodia eons ago working out for us. I am pondering the whole spa detox thing too, need to kick a couple vices for a bit and sometimes cold turkey might be the go. but correct fancy a bit of energy and market walk around - could obviously combine.

I believe there are some good cookery schools /classes too, Tas, come back a Thai food expert

Ooo, can't believe had forgotten that idea - thinking idea starting to take shape more seriously. First place suggested by JJ really looks like my thing too.

If anyone is thinking of going, the place we just stayed was quiet, serene and lovely - Yaang Come Village Nice rooms and a friendly, helpful staff. Just around the corner from the night market and walking distance to some restaurants and bars.
