Singapore to Melacca

Thinking of doing an overnighter there. Bus seems to be the best (aside from driving yourself) way to get there. Any recommendations on the bus part? Is one day enough?

We took a bus from Golden Mile Center (I think) and it wasn't bad at all. One or two days is plenty of time there.

One overnight is fine if you depart early am then leave later the next day. The attractions are all located together in the center of the old town so it's easy to see everything. Like Sluggo said, bus is best, any from Golden Mile are fine, and it's worth it to pay extra for the executive/VIP/Ekspres coaches.

All I remember hearing about bus rides to Malaysia are white knuckle tours by aggressive drivers. Or is that just ST hype?

Does the train go?
Yes I chocolated - and no not quite but here are some options.

I went on one of those "luxury" buses from Singapore to KL - not quite as crazy as the regular ones...

That's a great link Choco. Are there any buses to Tioman or Desaru? That is, as far as they can go before a ferry?

Most of the buses go from the golden mile complex on Beach Road - a quick "chocolate" came up with this

Choc, some trains stop at a town called Tampin along the way to KL, about 40km north-east of Malacca, so it's possible but really inconvenient. In Singapore you have to cab it to Woodlands, pick up the train, which takes forever to get to Tampin, then hassle with a cab to Malacca. Recommended only for die-hard train lovers.

Guy work said was in Malaysia last week and there is a fast train being built from KL to Singapore - anyone read that? Sorry lichty, realise won't be built ready for this trip.
(I love trains, so was a bit enthusiastic on hearing. Cheap flight to Malaysia bit of nonya tucker and a look round, then a train down to Singapore.)

Yeah, Tas, I've seen the story, they've signed the agreement and everything. It sounds awesome, wish it extended up to Penang.

The final plan is to extend a fast rail network across the whole of ASEAN and linking into Kunming and the China network. Don't hold your breath!

Would prefer a train over a bus any day and always wondered why they didn't build a high speed train between KL and SG a long time ago.
