One celebrated his 17th birthday the day before, another was getting married in December, another was about to become a father…..

News like this would hardly be news in China (thousands of mine deaths per year), but in NZ, with much more strict safety rules, it's a quote a shock. Not all mine incidents have happy endings like in Chile, in fact that was probably the exception. Sad.
