One word: Wow!

Gonna have to get a Blu-Ray player when this comes out on disc.

So all special effects and no story then.............

ah, that line doesn't work Bender. I tried the exact same line when Burbage was pondering his move to Australia.

Lots of cool stuff to look at on screen. Pity about the plot though, which was "Dances with Wolves" on an alien world with the 10 foot tall blue natives taking the place of the Sioux. The required evil, bloothirsty soldiers along with a ruthless, profit above all else corporate added into a completely predictable plot made this a lot of show with no substance.

Avatar 3D-IMAX

As an adult you sense history being made. To the skankster it was a just a really cool' movie

The adults in the audience stood up & clapped at the end

The story is more or less irrelevant its the technology the boggles the mind. [smilie=bowdown.gif] [smilie=bowdown.gif]

Second viewing was a little slow at first until the action started, but this is definitely a must see in 3D movie. I wish I hadn't seen it the first time in 2D. For anyone in the area, really impressed with the Vmax 3D cinema on the Gold Coast @ Robina. Definitely the best 3D cinema I've been to.

Amazing to look at, oh so predictable storyline, way too long.

3/5 for me.

But seems like it's going to clean up in the awards ceremonies. The movie the movie industry just had to have...

Funny thing is they spent all that money on special effects and didn't hire a decent writer.

Silly, the script is immaterial. Simply a vehicle to hang fantastic effects on. I don't know why everyone's ( ie film critics, right wing USA etc ) are getting so sensitive about it.
Fabulous, I loved it and want sparkles on my nose.

It is what it is. There are serious break your heart plot movies and there are entertainment flash and bang movies. There is something for everyone. Don't see the point in getting knickers in a twist about the worthiness of this particular movie. It did what I wanted, complete suspension from my daily reality and took me away with a whooosh. As for awards, can't take them too seriously and is case that it hasn't been cleaning up at the SAGS either. ( I mean for goodness sake, they gave an Oscar to that ding dong Gwyneth Paltrow for a fairly pathetic wipe across the screen as shakespeare wanna be in Shakespeare in Love, and didnt' give it to Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth)

Furbaby, totally excellent summary though :D

( I did hate wearing the 3D glasses, like a complete mong, had no idea it was 3D and hadn't prep'd with contact lenses)
Nothing is more conducive to peace of mind than not having any opinions at all.

Well, my comment was in the nature of an observation rather than a direct criticism. Hard to criticise a film that's going to outgross every film in history. The conclusion being: Could it have been better? Yes. Did it need to be better? No.

The question is, when every film is made in 3D, will Avatar stand up? Will it be remembered in the same way as The Wizard of Oz, the film that convinced the industry (Hollywood at least) that every film should be made in colour.
