What's better at Au Jardin - the set menu or ordering a la carte?

Unless they've cleaned it up since last time I was there, I'd suggest going to Oso's....

We went about 2 months ago, the place smelled musty and damp and there was a bit of plastic covering a cracked window pane.

We went the set menu route and the food was OK - if I was forced to go again (and i use the word "forced" advisedly) I would probably go a la carte.

Went to Oso for the first time last Thursday night. Very nice was, I was impressed. Huge wine selection but it was difficult to find a wine that didn't cost more then a 3 course meal for two.
So…if you wish to wish a wish, you may swish for fish with my Ish wish dish.

I always ask the waiter/sommelier what he would suggest, along with a price advisory. They've come up trumps so far...

On the rare occasion we went there, we asked the folks at Saint Julien to do us a wine pairing. We usually ended up very satisfied, very drunk, and rather skint. :)

I've never been to Au Jardin; it never appealed.

Same here, though I did finally go to Les Amis recently. I left feeling somewhat underwhelmed and somewhat poorer

Q did however add amusment by bursting out laughing when the waitress asked "what doneness I would like"

Au Jardin set menu. When they first opened. Very good. Chef change since then. Bad now, I think

Ah, Oso, a favourite Singapore dining venue.

Had some memorable nights there!

Not been to Au Jardin for a while but when I did in the past I awlays ended up ordering a la carte. Ambience is fine but from what I heard from friends who have been there recently, the food is no longer great. Rather fair to middling.

I like the food at Oso. However, on nights when you are seated next to a big group the noise pollution may get to you as the ceiling is a tad low. A must try at Oso is the burrata. Yum.

Anyone been to Gunther's yet?

Oh really? I had heard it was so fantastic.... The boyfriend wants to go there for his birthday so I said sure, hoping my credit card won't explode.

I'll go for a la carte then.

Thanks for the advice :-)

Next question - anyone know where I can get Piper Heidsieck Reserve champagne? I've tried the shops at Dempsey Road but they don't have. Boyfriend has also decided he wants that for his birthday.....

Hi SA. I'm pretty sure Carrefour has Pipers Reserve - that's the one with the Blue Label isn't it? I work at Suntec so can look tomorrow for you and let you know if they have it in stock. Also I'm sure I've seen it at Cold Storage at Great World City.

Let me know if you want me to suss out Carrefour for you.

Yep. They said the same thing about Il Lido too! Seemingly it's a case of a few good dishes which they do well and a few more mediocre dishes. Having said, if it's ambience you are looking for, Au Jardin is a cool choice. If the weather is not too muggy, a post dinner walk in Botanic garden to round off the evening.

Cold Storage Great World City has a pretty wide selection of champagne. I was there yesterday and seem to recall seeing two (or even 3) types of pipers there. Not sur if reserva is one of them as I dont normally go for pipers. Failing of which try the wine shop in the basement (opposite espirito santos)

Hey there SAgirl - you are in LUCK!! The Pipers Reserve (it's the one with the dark blue label and gold print) is on special this week. Normally $85.90 it's now $56.90 which is really really strange!! That's cheaper than the red label so I think they've made a big boo boo. Go buy it now while it's such a good price!

Yeah, but he gets that every Saturday already. For his birthday he needs something special. 8-)

Just give to him on a wednesday then!

Or you planning on giving it to him in the restaurant?
