Looking for apartment

Post by Joseph27 » 23rd Feb, '09, 16:39

The other board is full of shit - I swear they are advertising last year pricing in a market thats falling by the day. I have a months temp accomodation at bayshore which is okay but not too good and the prices are very negotiable. Those advertising on that site are asking >$5K for what is being advertised locally at >$3K negotiable down to around $3K. Amazing how many new expats could get fleeced if they dont do the research.

Even still - I continue my hunt. Going to be in East Coast though Pasir Ris I am afraid is just too far out. My wife wants to do some kids school in the city so East Coast is a good middle ground. Anything to look out for in this market?

Might be sensible to just do a 1-year contract if the prices continue to fall

Just dropped 5K a month off my lease. They will try but you have the power at the moment. Many families are leaving or expecting to leave by mid-year while the new people headed in are generally single and looking for lower-end/smaller places. Hold firm

Advertising fictionally high prices and then giving seemingly large discounts off those prices.. that's terrible! Though it does sound like the kind of thing that perhaps some large retail electrical or furnishing stores might do :)

I would never do something like that..... :P

It is funny here that was and is pricing is so bullshit. In Aus I need to be able to demonstrate that if I say it was at a particular price - i sold it at that price. I cannot mention vendors RCP price if I never sold it at that otherwise the fines are terrible.

Here I can make up whatever - it is a very misleading form of advertising that is however very powerful if used properly.

I think that in the UK you only have to demonstrate that you sold at the higher prices in one store at some point in the last 30 days.. I am sure that putting a TV on sale for 1 day at a high price in some store in the middle nowhere would never happen :)

Considering the number of chicks that will purchase something because it's got 50% off, then yes, I fully understand the power of it.

Chicks, if you need it, buy it. Don't buy it because it's got 50% off FFS!

I think there's laws in the UK too, soemthing like selling it for 6 weeks in that store at the original price prior to selling it at the sale price.

I always think, "there's a reason that's reduced". Demonstrated quite well yesterday by the number of pairs of yellow patent-leather stack-heeled shoes on sale in David Jones.

Similarly, the only things in the Gap sale are lime green or orange

I thought they'd already done that? Or is that just in banking? :D
