Getting rid of rubbish - how?
OK, we have to move. We have a ton of junk that has to go. Too big for just leaving for the rubbish guys and not what anyone would want to take away. Things like old mattress & base, el cheapo falling apart shelf units and the like. Junk.
So, does anyone know of a guy who will take away rubbish like this? People have told me in the past that you can get someone to come and take it away for a fee, but I am at a loss of how to find such a person.
Any ideas anyone?

Put it outside with a price tag on it and a donation box close by. Then leave it unattended overnight. It'll all be gone in the morning as well as the donation box.
When you live in an HDB estate you just haul it down to the rubbish collection building and leave it there and what the sanitation workers cum estate cleaners don't want they will get rid of the rest no problem. If you are living in a condo though I don't have a clue although if you have maintenance/cleaners you might approach them to see if they can suggest something.

Hi, PP. Well it looks like your life is no longer in limbo, then?
Most independent movers will also do removal, and will charge you for "removal permit". If you're interested, I have a mover guy who I find reasonable, and I think he will be honest with his charges. PM me if you'd like his details.

A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

Seriously this is junk, it is old and some of it mouldy/rusty and falling to bits etc...
Canuck, you would not want it believe me, its not just a mattress it is a base as well, and should never have left Australia never mind being carted off to HK and then here! It is positively archaic and deserves to die. This is the sort of stuff that back home would have been put out for the annual hard rubbish collection by the local council but I have never worked out how to get rid of it here.
SMS, I wish it were that easy. The stuff that would go like that has gone, this is what is left over, oh, and more to come.
Lili, yes, our life is on the move, well our furniture etc is, although we will still be here until at least the end of May (school) in a temporary apartment.

Do the kallang guni men drive around beeping the horns where you live? They take junk & sometimes they even pay you a little bit for it - I think the guy that drives by here gave me around $2 for an old computer monitor

The Salvation Army will come and pick up anything they deem to be useful, but we found them to be very picky, so most stuff (including some good stuff in our opinion) ended up in the condo basement. Sometimes you've just got to do it.

If I lived in a condo I could perhaps do those things but if I chuck it out it sits outside my place and just doesn't go away, and then you get a visit from someone from some authority...that I can do without.
The Karung Guni (how do you spell that?) men have already taken what they want...they get it when they pick up the papers etc.
