Changing driving license once PR

Post by SAgirlRuth » 23rd Apr, '10, 11:07

Hi there

Anyone know how to convert an existing Singapore driving license done while an EP to a PR one?

Have tried the usual websites - LTA just says it must be done, driving centre websites just link back to the LTA. Tried calling Bukit Batok centre and they said go to the police...??

I'm wondering if I should just go down to a driving centre and try and have it re-issued there? But I don't want to waste my time...

Thanks in advance!

Do you need to? I never bothered. When I went to renew it after 5 years (at the TRaffic Police at Ubi) they just gave me a new one with no expiry date (since PR) and not a word was said.

Since the Driving License is linked to your IC and when you become PR, your Fin number dies and you get a new IC, surely the old drivers license is effectively terminated once you become PR.

As I say, they never said anything at the Traffic Police, and it had been 4 years.

Scummy Daddy went to renew his on Saturday which had expired a few weeks earlier. The woman on reception gave him a scolding and he couldn't seem to get through to her that he hadn't been driving therefore he wasn't breaking the law.

SAG: I should ring the TRaffic Police.

Mr. S renewed his expired one after around 3 months of it being expired & I don't think they even noticed, much less cared

I forgot about the FIN number being your license number - so, yeah, I think Jedi is right. Just go to the Traffic Police at Ubi and tell them you're now PR and need to convert your license. They'll probably charge you $50 for the privilege (that's what it costs to renew one when you're an EP or DP).

As with many things in Singapore, it depends on your luck. You may be lucky and find a policeman who turns the other way and just reissues your license, or you might get pulled over one day and have the book thrown at you for driving without a license. The choice is yours.

Oh, I was the sole driver around here during those months because I was afraid our insurance could/would end up invalid if something happened while he was driving on an expired license.
