Pith helmet

Post by Fat Bob » 6th Feb, '09, 13:15

Anyone know where I can get a pith helmet from in Singapore? Someone said "China Town" but I've no idea where abouts. Looking for something like this:

Give the Concierge at the Raffles a call. Their outdoor staff wear pith helmets.

If you find one, please let me know. I can envision many occasions when a pith helmet would come in handy, and several times in recent years have been disadvantaged for want of one.

I can imagine.

What else can one wear with crease-down-the-middle shorts, eh?

Actually, I think I may have one in the kids dress-up box but think its black with studs. Want me to look?

have definitely seen them in China town.

if you come out of the MRT onto the street with all the stalls, take the first right (restuarant on the corner)
I'm sure some of the shops on the right sell them

I'm pretty sure the Stage Club has some if you want to hire one.

I got a good one hanging in my office at home. Believe it came from the old Marco Polo if I'm not mistaken.

I managed to find several khaki hats but not a solid one as above.

I'm going to dress the floppy hat I've got up with a bit of leopard skin fur I've got and see how it goes.

I did try China Town, all around Pagoda Street and the other shops nearby, couldn't find one. Might go down again at the weekend if I feel stupid enough.

Yeah, thought about that but shipping time was short. Need it for a week on friday, I wouldn't expect anything to get here in less than 2 weeks from the states.

Then it gets into the SGD100. For a rugby tour then that's probably a bit too expensive.

Found them! Only took me three visits to Chinatown! The place that sells them is a stall on Sago Street called Mr Saigon. It's only open in the mid-afternoons and evenings, hence me not finding them in lunchtime visits on first two attempts! Cost is $15. So just right for rugby tour! They only had the one like in the photo above, not the British colanial army style (as seen in the Zulu films).

Thanks for all the possible help and ridicule, and no, you don't get to see photos.
