Carpenter

Post by baloo » 6th Nov, '09, 13:18

Not the anorexic variety.

I need a good skilled carpenter to build a false wall in the living room. Going through renovation companies tend to increase the costs substantially so I'm trying to go direct to a tradie.

BBII has worked out that if he pushes stuff through the wall unit, it justifies his need to climb up over the top of it and down the back in a attempt to "clean up".

Any suggestions ?

Failing that, anyone know a good reno company that won't charge me double because I don't eat chicken feet ?

Two options:

(a) coal sack and a couple bricks, introduction to MacRitchie reservior.
(b) start eating chicken feet

(Maybe try giving Heng a call to see if he can recommend someone? He's a tradie so might know other tradies).

yeah, Heng offered to do it himself, but even I wouldn't let him do something like that.

I can dig out the number of the carpenter who did my kitchen/wardrobes/windows etc. I do eat chicken rice and not sure he is that cheap but he did very good work on kitchen etc. Less convinced by his windows and his English isn't that good

Would it not be easier/cheaper to replace the wall unit with one with a back?

Won't stop him climbing, nor getting his hands on the hifi equipment. Here's already pushed in the Tweeters of my B&W speakers.

It's purely a family safety play. I need to make sure my house is as safe as possible for my family.

oh, I just realised, seeing we getting rid of the wall unit, we can now fit in a 50" TV. What a coincidence.....

I would think that you need to plan ahead and somehow make space for at least a 56" TV, or maybe put in a hidden projector screen

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book. Groucho Marx

cheers Sard, I missed my typo.

Wouldn't get a projector, day time viewing isn't decent enough... unless the projector screen slid down in front of the 56" TV....

I'm not too clear what you want building - initially I assumed you wanted a back putting on your wall unit - but Noah had his lounge wall cabinets made by a local guy and they're very good. Do you have Noah's number?

I do know an excellent carpenter - he made our coffee table and put right all the stuff we had made in Indonesia, which included replacing the coffee table - but last I heard he was making furniture for one of the places up Dempsey and very busy. Not cheap, either. (Are they still up Dempsey, I wonder?)

A small pair of handcuffs and some leg irons would be much cheaper.

Warning label on that stuff says not for kids under 12 but that's what it said on the Prozac label so it should be ok.
