Quick Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs

Some time ago I decided there was little point in posting serious recipes on here, so now I post only the unconventional ones. Here's another:

When you've finished using your espresso machine to make your morning coffee, why not make use of the steam wand to make quick scrambled eggs? Here's how to do it.

Ingredients:
  • 1 or 2 eggs
  • milk or cream
  • pepper and salt
  • 1 espresso machine
Method:
  • Break the eggs onto a jar ( a straight-sided ceramic pitcher works best), add a bit of milk, add pepper to taste, then stir.
  • Hold the jar or pitcher underneath the steamer wand and let the wand dip into the egg mixture. Turn on the steamer and swirl about until the eggs are scrambled but still a bit soft and runny. It works best if you swirl from the edges, then do the centre of the mixture as it firms up.
The eggs turn out creamy, tasty, and melt-on-your-tonguey. Add salt after the eggs are cooked. If you like toast with your egg, start the toaster before you start the eggs.

Isn't it a PITA to clean the expresso nozzle?

Probably, but think of the novelty.

There are lots of coffee shops doing scrambled eggs this way, but they usually have machines with more than one nozzle. A suggestion I've come across which makes sense is to get a short length of hose/tubing to attach to the nozzle. When you've finished doing the eggs, detach the hose from the nozzle and clean. Easy.

Exactly what I thought. Microwave does good scrambled eggs if you dont leave em in there too long.
I don't own an expresson machine. Good idea for a cafe though. Can you imagine how long they would take to do that in Starbuck's and the amount of shouting at each other they would have to do?

Not exactly fire and forget like the microwave, but definitely the only way to make real scrambled eggs.

Some people have no sense of adventure.

If I was stranded on a desert island with an espresso machine and an egg I'd give it a try. If I could find a power outlet.

...and then you'd die. I'd try hatching the egg, and die while waiting for the chicken to grow up and start laying eggs. [smilie=tease.gif]

Do you mean a desert island or a deserted island?

Would probably be quite useful on a dessert island too if you fancied something savoury for a change

A desert island is a deserted island, whether or not it has a desert. As for desserts, they should be just.
