....Polish! I'd have thought it would be one of the South Asian languages, the make up of the UK has changed a lot since I lived there.

It sure has.

There were always East Europeans around me when I was growing up - I lived next door to Poles in 1962, and my aunty married a Hungarian in the late 50s. The Hungarians for sure came over in the troubles around 1956, and we had British Steel and ICI around there (NE coast) so that's where they came to work. It was normal to have friends with surnames you could hardly pronounce, all those c y z k

Last time I was in Leeds, it was a huge increase in Africans I noticed. It's always been very multicultural, with South Asians and West Indians (I moved there in 1981 and it was a shock after my little white seaside town - not in a bad way, just very different), but definitely seemed more "foreign" in recent years.

My home town is still predominantly white, but who the hell would want to migrate there?

God knows, but we just recruited 5 people. Irish, Italian, Austalian, Greek and Polish. All but the Aussie speak excellent English

My new colleague is gobsmacked how many nationalities share this office space we are currently camping in. I haven't done a count up but would put money on there being more immigrants than locals.

It's the way of the world these days.
