That was a big one!

When in doubt, post it in here.

That was a big one!

Post by Mabel » 20th Feb, '08, 17:16

We had quite an earth moving moment here about an hour ago. I'm only just able to get back online now, but from what can find (so far) this one was off the west coast of Sumatra, and was 7.6.
It lasted for ages. Long enough for me to gather the kids and the pembantu in a corner beside an archway and watch the chandeliers dancing.
I really hope there were no fatalaties or injuries.

Boy, how do you ever get used to that, Mabel? Seems like it's always happening there! Glad you are OK.

That's definitely the biggest one I've actually felt since we've been here Slinky. Usually I only realise *after* I notice things moving, but this one was big. Don't think I'd be handling it very well if we had too many more like that.
I'm very concerned about the underground area of husbands work (once they actually get to that point) with all of this shaking though. :( People on site there reported it has being felt just as strongly as here.

That doesn't sound good. I don't think I'd do well in an earthquake-prone area.

Hey, Mabel, I'm seeing tsunami warnings have been issued for Sumatra. Take care!

7.5 according to USGS. pretty big. in theory anything over 7 can cause a tsunami.

[edit quake strength]
