Remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in high heels.

Hey Mus, cancer ain't the bitch, life is!
Remember the good times from before. One of the most painful things of diseases like this is seeing someone you love get riddled away and lose a lot of what they were.
My thoughts go to you and your family

Sorry to hear that Mus. Commiserations. It killed my Mum many years ago too.

Mus, my grandmother was also diagnosed with the Big C two weeks ago. Otherwise she's the image of good health. Old, but good. It breaks my heart. My hopes and wishes go out to you, big hugs.

Re: Cancer is a f**king bitch!
Mus & Lili, I really feel for the both of you as I'm feeling about the same way as I had a call from my Dad around midnight 2 days ago and it seems that his lung cancer has now gone ballistic and is now around the size of a softball in his right lung and the pain of coughing or sneezing is excruciating. He's refusing to have Chemo but he did do radiation therapy last year after the colon cancer operation which went all bad and caused him a month's stay in the hospital before he got right. He swore he wouldn't do Chemo or have another op for the lung cancer. He's going to the docs this week after having numerous scans last week all confirming the worst. I see his point as he has always been very active and now, after trying for a year to get back on his feet, at 83, like he says, "Even if I do have the operation or chemo, how much more time will it give me, I'm already 83 for craps sake. I've already outlived all my siblings by a minimum of 25 years and am 10 years older than my dad was when he died!" Guess it's a pretty valid reason. So, while I hope for the best, I'm resigned to the fact that knowing him he will shorten it rather than go through the procedures again and maybe end up in a rocker waiting to die. I know I wouldn't wish that on him at all.......
I know how you all feel. I've not been home enough in the past dozen years or so and now, who knows.......

Wow, these are some sad times. SMS, that's terrible news, I'm so sorry. My family has also been grappling with how to treat the elderly for cancer. At a certain stage does the quality of days become more important than the number?

Yup, thinking of you all and realising just how lucky I am that to-date my family has not been through any of this, and that I still have both parents.
We may have our health issues but hardly any cancer in the family - my beloved Grandad was diagnosed with pancreatic and dead within the week. He was a strapping great Yorkshire farmer and I'm actually glad he went that way.

Re: Cancer is a f**king bitch!
Lili, I would have to say emphatically YES! I've had an AMD both in the US and here for the past 20 or so years. I could never see myself as an invalid or vegetable. My worst fear is not being able to do for myself OR ending it for myself rather than having to depend on others for everything. I would rather die with dignity. So, I am, and have been a strong proponent for AMD's and worse/better depending of POV. (in the new's a lot this past week)Being a non-religious person helps me a lot as I'm not carrying any baggage around.Lili Von Shtupp wrote:Wow, these are some sad times. Re: Cancer is a f**king bitch!
Mus, Lili and SMS, I'm sorry to hear about your news. My girlfriend's dad passed way from cancer of the gallbladder in May at the age of 72. From diagnosis to the time he passed way was less than 3 months. Unfortunately this type of cancer is not only rare it's also pretty much symptom free until it reaches stage 4. 2008 has not been a good year for many people.

Losing anyone is hard. Knowing you are going to lose them makes it worse.
Just make sure you let them know you love them before they go.

Re: Cancer is a f**king bitch!
My sympathies go to all who have suffered a loss to this hideous disease. I lost my brother last summer ('07) to lung cancer. He was only 56 years old. Such a shame, he had just married a wonderful women and then he found out he had cancer.
I guess we're not in Kansas anymore.
