Re: SMS speak
In my first job that was just policespeak for "shagging pool"
"I really love you" she said. "Is that the champagne talking" he asked. "No" she laughed. "That's me talking to the champagne"

Re: SMS speak
i remember asking our HO for a fax machine because our clients used them and the answer was: "we won't need fax machines, we have telex."
anyone remember that weird smell from those first fax machines?
or using those white paper tape things that you would use to remove a whole sentence on a draft memo or proposal as it was too painful to use all that white-out on a 15 page, hand written document.
or putting the white-out thinner in a colleague's plastic cup full of coffee when he wasn't looking and slowly watch the cup dissolve?

Re: SMS speak
Interestingly SMS talk is actually being taught in some curriculums...I won't mention which...but certain governments believe that students will become more engaged in the study of the English Language should they make it more culturally relevant. It's not to say the basics are overlooked; spelling, grammar, syntax, composition and effect etc... I guess it's just another step in the evolution of language eh... It provided the perfect opportunity to explore the etymology of words...particularly when one might flippantly share one of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes and suddenly read aloud 'dirty slut' ...such fun to be had in linguistics...

Re: SMS speak
It will be a very sad day when the richness of the English language is reduced to a bucket of spurious abbreviations and misspillings invented by people who can't be arsed, or don't know how, to write proper English. Can you imagine a future romantic novel, "She thot they were more than frenz. But there wuz 0 mtg of minds & that wuz prblm, cos he dun no wot to do nxt to pls her. He thot she wuz GF for life more than NE1 n she wuz gr8. But her thots were :-p to him cos l8er she got D8 with hot man. He turned to her, "FYI IMHO u is rong, cos 2Day I wuz ROTFL about ur BF. He only got 1 eye n bad BO, so (_x_)" Mills and Boon take note!

Mills & Boomz!
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.
