B@st@rd TV
2" black line down the left hand side of the panel. Time for a new one.
Seems HD ready plasmas are on the way out, Panasonic, LG and Samsung 42" models all down to ~$700. Also found a 46" Full HD model going for $1300 (all from reputable retailers).

Re: B@st@rd TV
Get a Samsung UE 55" C8000 LED 3D display.
Anything less and you might as well keep what you have.

Re: B@st@rd TV
Hahaha, yeah, 5x the price. Did see the 3D one in Parasilk, impressive, but unlikely to purchase one just yet.

Was playing COD Black Ops (in 3D) on my friends 3D plasma last night. WOW!
Re: B@st@rd TV
All I know is the Samsung 55" we bought barely a year ago has come down considerably from what we paid. Guess that's the nature of it - you think you're getting an at least decent price only to see it months down the road much cheaper.

Re: B@st@rd TV
My view a few years ago was "buy a good quality set, it'll last". $3,500 and 5 years later, it's not really lasted as long as I hoped it would.
And the HD-ready 42" and the Full HD 46" models mentioned above are better quality then my current ones, for a fraction of the price. As long as they last 3+ years, then the 3D's will come down by then......

Re: B@st@rd TV
For the less wealthy of us you could consider a Samsung 46C6700. Does it for me. No 3D yet though but then I don't fancy to watch TV with goggles on anyway. Sony is working on 3D withoug goggles so that might be the way forward anyway

Re: B@st@rd TV
this generation 3D is dead in the water. don't bother with one now. a full HD plasma or backlit LCD (also erroneously labelled LED) should do you well until the next generation.

Re: B@st@rd TV
True technology is evolving but things seem to be maxed out at 1080p at the moment. For the most part the current 3D implementation is sw based. The beauty of the newer high end TVs is that they are upgradable (firmware) to fix flaws and/or add new features.
I imagine they will stay relevant longer than previous ones have.

Have you played Black Ops in 3D? I used to think 3D was dead until I played some 3D PS3 games. Now I want one!Morrolan wrote:this generation 3D is dead in the water

Re: B@st@rd TV
no doubt it has great novelty value and makes gaming more immersive, but i hate the goggles and get a headache from them.Jedi wrote:Have you played Black Ops in 3D? I used to think 3D was dead until I played some 3D PS3 games. Now I want one!Morrolan wrote:this generation 3D is dead in the water
i'll wait and see what the development of 3D without goggles will bring.

Re: B@st@rd TV
Courts - Panasonic VIERA TH-P46U20S going for $1148 with 3 year warranty and free delivery Saturday in time for the England Samoa game. I know the model maybe on the way out, and 5 years ago I would have been interested to hear your thoughts on that. I believe 5 years on and at $1148, I don't have to worry about how much better the $5+k TV would be.Fat Bob wrote: Also found a 46" Full HD model going for $1300 (all from reputable retailers).
Now to re-learn how to program my Logitech remote.
Free 42" Hitachi plasma TV to anyone that shouts before Saturday. You arrange pick up for Saturday afternoon or Sunday. TV has sometime 2" black or multicoloured line down left hand side. I have PDF doc of the TV if you are interested.

Didn't support any cause, went for the best deal, which this time happened to be Courts and not Parisilk or Best Denki. Didn't go to Hardly Normal.

Hmmm my maid may want your old TV....how bad are the lines? Seeing the quality of some of the dancing singing shows she watches I doubt she will notice any additional lines

If your new maids room is the one I think it is, I doubt she''l be able to fit a 42" in.

Re: B@st@rd TV
New TV attached to the wall. 10 more holes to mask when I leave. Easy really. Remote updated already. Logitech remotes rock.
Still have the old one if anyone wants, the lines are not that bad. You arrange pick-up. Poss gets first refusal.
