Hey PP - been to Melbourne a few times for work in the last couple of months and will most likely be there again in Feb, time to put a face to the name methinks!
Now that sounds like a good idea...sent you a PM

What does it actually take ($ and effort) to keep this running?

It's not the effort, especially these days.
Killing spammers. Watching for board sw updates and picking which ones to install (because of the customisation it's a bit fiddly).
BUT - This isn't about the money or the effort. It's about closing down the board with some dignity rather than letting turn into some internet wasteland full of spam and nothing else.
Consider it board Euthanasia rather than letting it rot away with leprosy in a dark dank corner

I was a relative latecomer to it and was glad to be welcomed. I always said this place was my water cooler, a break from the work-from-home solitude. FB is fun, but TLC has been a Go To place for things I can't talk about on FB but would love advice and an ear on. My Girls!
Wherever you guys go, I'll tag along.
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

End of an era, I guess - sniff sniff
Like many others have already said, this was a place I met some great people. It still amazes me how many of them have since left Singapore given nearly all of them were here when I first found this place. The TLC has been in invaluable place and certainly will be missed. Ladies, perhaps we need a closed FB group - ?
Thanks to Baloo & the other mods for all the work over the years.

I'll look into how to set up a closed group if you ladies want to try it, I just need to know everyone's
real names (or at least the names of those I don't already know)

It's pretty easy to set up a private group, but you do have to have someone as the originator/admin of it. Just go to help/popular features/groups and it tells you how to do it.

I took a quick look yesterday, PP, and it seems pretty straightforward. I guess the way everyone would be given access would be to state their board name in a PM at the time of requesting to join? I know the majority of real names already, but for the few I don't that's all I can think of to do. Can't imagine too many random people trying to join a group called Singaporum Ladies Club - or whatever

You going to do the set up Slinks?

I'm late to this - and therefore a perfect example of why the board is closing.
Thank you Baloo, and others, for providing a refuge for (comparatively) sane people in Singapore and beyond. It's brought me advice, amusement and treasured friends.
Oh, and a good plumber.

Sadly I would have to agree. This forum has pretty much run its course. I'm certainly grateful for all the info it's provided over the years and the people I have subsequently met. (Thanks Cookie for the original invite to join back in 2006.)

I for one would not like to see it go, but can understand why it may. It's the one place I post, the other forums are not for me.
I probably won't join the FB page, though a few know me here I prefer my relative anonymity and don't want to mix my FB with my FB peeps, they are separate worlds.
Plus Mrs. S never got around to the LTC and had always planned to but life got in the way and she forgot.
Like Addadude, I learned a lot here, hope I contributed a little, and will keep watching this space. I will especially miss TV To Watch, as I find myself high and dry again.
I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book. Groucho Marx

Yes I agree.
Boss man please give us a shutdown date/time. It's better to burn out, than to fade away!
