Bikie Wars
I've written this twice already - long, hopefully discussion-provoking piece - and then lost it because I clicked the wrong thing on my temporary Apple mouse.
Sydney gang wars.
Fight at airport - this one made the BBC News: http://www.smh.com.au/national/come-on- ... -97gg.html
Another drive-by shooting, no thought for children and babies being present.
Escalating violence after a gang member was murdered a couple of weeks ago.
It's just like Leeds.

Re: Bikie Wars
bikies are scum, but a lot of people here seem to think they are Robin Hood or something, as you can see from the reaction in SA to the laws outlawing criminal bikie gangs (funny that: a law to outlaw criminal gangs)
i don't get this fascination that people in this country seem to have with criminals (and no, i don't think it's because they are all descendents from criminals, because the majority isn't) and the way everyone is always trying to justify crimes. maybe it has something to do with the soft useless court system (can't really call it "justice").

Re: Bikie Wars
Ok I've got over my mouse-induced paddy.
I don't honestly see how you can outlaw them, M. Crims don't care about stuff like that.
I'm not naive, and I know a little bit about drug wars (did I tell you about the time I was warned my house may be firebombed? Oh that was a fun period in my life ) and it's always going to be there, and I don't care if they kill each other (although they will quickly be replaced) but right now it seems to be getting a little out of hand and spilling over into the real world.

Isn't that pretty much what T2K says about guns in the US?Kooky wrote:

Re: Bikie Wars
I think the member demographic (age, ethnicity, etc) of the gangs has changed somewhat over the years, bringing changed approaches with it. The first four to be arrested after the incident were all aged under 25.
I found this article interesting.

No need to run away That's one thing on which we agree. Only law-abiding citizens care about laws.slinky wrote:Isn't that pretty much what T2K says about guns in the US?Kooky wrote:

I think I read an extract from that article this morning, Bender. That or the same old stuff regurgitated. Interesting point about demographics; maybe the new guard is a bit more hot-headed than the old? Perhaps it's up to the old guard to slap them into line then.
A more radical thought - decriminalise party drugs, take away the huge profits. (Not the first time I've said that, I know.)
Re: Bikie Wars
In NZ by outlawing the wearing of Gang patches it gives the police more power to disperse and stop trouble before it begins. In some cases it removes the intimidation factor.

Re: Bikie Wars
The same is happening at the moment in Denmark and a bit in Germany but the underlying reason is mostly crime (drugs and prostitution) so not sure if banning batches etc would help but rather fight them like any other mafia organisation
I would vote for banning chopper and HD though

Re: Bikie Wars
Maybe they're just raging about being called Bikies? Imagine calling a surfer a surfie, or a scubadiver a divie. Makes me a little twitchy myself.
A woman walked into a pub and asked the barman for a double entendre. So he gave it to her.

Shit! Lili! Good Point! They're feeling like we don't take them seriously - poor loves are having to prove they're mean.
In Australia everything ends in -ie or -o. Do you think they'd be happier with Biko?

Good point. Note to self: don't post before 8am. Now where did I put that cup of coffee?

Re: Bikie Wars
Just read that myself. Also that a load of them will be in Canberra today for a funeral - when we were driving back last evening we saw 3 police cars parked up in the middle of the freeway, looking ready for action, and thought it odd. 2 minutes later a load of bikies roared past.

Maybe that's why Qanta ground staff called a stop wrok meeting this morning to disscuss security issues!

Re: Bikie Wars
frustrating as a regular flyer, but for once I think I can see their own frustration. ground staff at the coal face when these twits fly in as reinforcement (which is apparently what's happening if other news articles are to be believed, but conveniently not mentioned in the articles today) but that said, the baggage handlers are happily behind the barriers, I'd be more worried if I worked on the ticket side.
Nothing is more conducive to peace of mind than not having any opinions at all.

Re: Bikie Wars
What self respecting bikie takes a plane? And sends an SMS for backup??? They're not bikies, they're big girls blouses.
What do you SMS someone in that situation? 'Meet at airport, bring knuckle duster'.

Re: Bikie Wars
It's a bit hard to ride a bike from NZ. The last time reinforcements were called, some issues in WA, most of them came from NZ
