Re: Soybeans
Giant has them by the bucketful. Cheap[ as chips.
I love em. Just blanch them for a minute or two in boiling water and you are sorted!

Re: Soybeans
They're in the freezer section of any Cold Storage or NTUC. I've never seen them sold fresh here.

Re: Soybeans
Now you've got me craving edamame too --- so you just put them in boiling water for a couple minutes and that's it?

Re: Soybeans
Edamame is one of the few things I have salt on, slinks. Just perfect. Of course I don't cook them myself.
Re: Soybeans
Oh, they definitely need salt I've only ever had them in restaurants, so I'm not sure how to cook them at home. I might have a look in Giant this week & see if I can find some -- sounds yummy

Re: Soybeans
Just make sure they're not genetically modified or you could be getting more flavouring than you desire.

What do they modify?

Make them more resistant to nasty pesticides, which end up in your gut.

Re: Soybeans
They serve them at Brewerkz with black pepper. Very tasty but a bit pricy.
I guess we're not in Kansas anymore.

Re: Soybeans
They say soybeans are a great source of protein. While that may be true, they also contain quite a bit of phytoestrogen, which is the plant equivalent of the female hormone.
Wikipedia says this:
"Because most naturally occurring estrogenic substances show weak activity, normal consumption of foods that contain these phytoestrogens should not provide sufficient amounts to elicit a physiological response in humans".
That's just a tad too heavy on the quantifiers to my taste.
