Track changes question
OK, so I'm working with a Word document that was sent to me from a client. On their side, they've had every internal department take a stab at this document, and everybody's changes are tracked. So I have in front of me what appears to be The Document of Frankenstein.
How do I turn off tracking so that all I have in front of me is the final document?
Changing the view doesn't help - as soon as I cut and paste a passage into another document, the tracked changes follow like a ghost. I just want a normal, untracked document to work with. How to do that?
Can anyone help?

Re: Track changes question
Yeah, but it just seems to change the "view". The tracks are still within the document. When I try to excerpt bits of it, all their messy edits seem to follow into my new document. Does that make sense?

Re: Track changes question
Have you tried "Change Tracking Options" ?
I have Track Changes defaulted to off. Not sure how, but I never see them unless I force them on.

Re: Track changes question
If you don't want to see the changes then go to Review and select "Final" from the drop down box, if you wnat to see them select "Final Showing Markup". If you want to get rid of them altogether go to Review - Accept all changes in documentLili Von Shtupp wrote:Yeah, but it just seems to change the "view". The tracks are still within the document. Review - Accept all changes. Oh, thank you. I kept changing the view, and then they'd come back like a bad habit. Thanks Lichty.

matie, you should see contracts reviewed through several engineers, lawyers and helped by translators on both sides, though sure you have
perfect description.

Track changes, Final, etc., piece of piss.
Cut, Paste Special and Transpose in Excel, however, had me tearing my bloody hair out today. Function. After much googling it seemed I needed a function. WTF?

And Lil, tough you've found your answer, I wonder if toggling View > Markup would help your case

Re: Track changes question
I had a spreadsheet with 75 columns worth of headings in, i.e., one row only, and I wanted to put them into one column, 75 rows. Used to be easy - may still be but I couldn't for the life of me fathom it and all my googling suggested it has to be done with a function these days, TRANSPOSE=(yadda yadda).Sardonicus wrote:What are / were you trying to do K?
BTW it wasn't my spreadsheet originally, and it's part of a much bigger job that I think could have been made a lot easier but - oh well, what do I know, I'm only the temp

Re: Track changes question
Ok, you mentioned a function (which makes me think of a cell with a programmed Excel function in it like VLOOKUP), but by that did you mean the Edit > Paste Special > Transpose feature?

Re: Track changes question
Well that was what I was expecting but damned if I could find it in 2010. I still can't believe it's not there, but I was definitely not getting the pop up box with the different paste special options. It's there in 2007, just checked on this laptop.
I'll have another go tomorrow.

Re: Track changes question
Ah, I'm on 2007 and yes, it's Transpose.
Can you type "rows to columns transpose" into the help box?
Or look at this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/12366/co ... -easy-way/

That's exactly what I expected but never got the pop-up options. I'm keeping an open mind 'til I get to work, in case I was having a blonde moment, but it's all very puzzling.

Re: Track changes question
So just got round to this, and as Neo can do it in 2010, and Tas can do it in 2010, I called in IT. They noticed I didn't have the dashed line highlight thingy either.
They googled on tech forums and It's a Chrome problem. Came out of Chrome, works perfectly. How bizarre.

Me? No???
I was also advised to uninstall Skype Click to Call, or some such thing. I didn't know I had it but I've uninstalled it.

Re: Track changes question
For anybody who may be vaguely interested, today I did a Paste Special, Transpose, with Chrome open, and it worked.
My conclusion is that the combination of Chrome + Skype Click to Call is the problem.
