My kid started school this year, so now I have to get up early, feed him, hose him down, dress him and walk him to school. Can you tell how enthusiastic I am about this?

So this morning, as I'm wrestling the kid to get his nightshirt off, I'm thinking, Maybe if I put on the radio it will help keep things moving in the morning. Some kind of pop music, upbeat, etc.

So I need a recommendation for a pop/rock radio station from about 6:45 to 7:30 in the morning. Thing is I want to avoid lame DJ attempts at shock-jock humor. Can anyone recommend something?

No chance. But 91.3 is what I have on in the mornings now. Still crap but at least there's no school boy humour delivered by a 55yo.

My problem with iPod is that the music I normally listen to is not exactly get-up-and-go at 7 o'clock in the morning kinda stuff. And I don't want to fill it up with pop/rock just for the purpose. Hell, might as well get something for that TV and radio license I pay for each year.

Does it have to be local? There's a world of music out there - have a look at vtuner or reciva.

BBC Radio 4 has always been the only radio I can cope with in the morning. Or pretty much at all, come to think of it.

Although given the time difference, you might end up with Book at Bedtime. Perhaps not.

I like to listen to BBC for news. This is the news station? I would enjoy it, but I doubt it would put pep in the kid's step.

Exactly...and it is only just bearable.

I have local radio on rather than anything else because it does help sometimes to hear the traffic updates if you have to drive around/across town.

Internet radio is the only way to go, at least until some muppet pulls the plug.. I love my home stations, UK stations, US stations, Irish etc.. even occasional norwegian

Good luck with this Lili. My experience is that boys are easily distracted and they find it impossible to convey spoon/toast/chopsticks to mouth or sock onto foot if some aural snippet catches their attention. With my elder one ( 20) I still turn off everything if I want to be sure he receives some vital input from me !

Yes Slinks, while getting them to do what you want never gets easier their ability to turn anything around onto you or off on a tangent increases. And that isn't quite so endearing later! Actually it is, but only in a private mumsy way.

It is not just boys and does not get easier as they get older. I find I waste 30min pushing them to get out the door on time not only for school but also for sports on sat and Sundays. I finally cracked a few weeks ago. I spoke to the coach and requested that if pos II does not arrive 20MIN BEFORE the game/training he is to bench her for the entire game. She now fills her own drink bottle and is sitting in the car yelling at me to hurry up School mornings we are still working on.....

I knew a guy who devised a system to get everyone to school & work on time, Poss. In order for everyone to get where they needed to be they all had to be in the car, ready to go by 7:30am, so for every minute a person was late they had to pay the people who were in the car waiting to go $1. He said within a couple of weeks everyone was ready to go ahead of 7:30am because it didn't cost them to be in the car early & they often made money if they were early. Something along those lines might work for school mornings
